Over recent decades, mortality rates due to the major cancers, such as colorectal and breast cancers, have continued to decline in high‐income countries although the overall level and pace of improvement vary for each cancer type. Differences in the availability of, and access to, screening programs, as well as access to effective and high‐quality cancer care, are the likely causes of such differences . There are several cancer types and stages for which survival rates have improved, including, for example, local‐stage esophageal cancer; regional‐stage female breast and colorectal cancer; and distant‐stage non‐Hodgkin lymphoma
